WebSep 30, 2008 · 487 or 487X are good ports attached to a poor chamber. Anything you gain in breahing is lost to a slow, detonation prone burn. However, they make a good blower head. Also, still required in some racing classes and somewhat rare as a result of all the short trackers hunting them down. Bogie.

WebDec 24, 2008 · From what I remember the "487" and "487x" heads are fairly sought after by lower end circle track racers. I know when I raced in a Street Stock class they were the most commonly used head out there. The guys who ran them paid pretty good money, so they must be one of the better GM castings *Bowties, and Vortec" were illegal.

If I remember right the 487 was later head and the 70 LT1 heads were 186's with a 492 casting replacement later in 1970.
